With our need to be constantly connected, wherever we go, Wi-Fi naturally lends itself to measuring people’s movement indoors. But in most Wi-Fi setups, distance to existing access points can mean locating someone within a range of 7–30 metres from where they actually are. Not very useful when trying to figure out if they’re using a meeting room that’s only a few metres across or a few metres away from the next meeting room.

As the device moves through space the signal is further attenuated causing loss of location accuracy.

The learning algorithm uses Wi-Fi signal variations to locate devices, with stationary devices aiding in weak areas. Environment calibration establishes an RSSI fingerprint.
